Queen Elizabeth

We had some special guests in our class this week. The good people at 'time bandits' came to tell us all about our lovely Queen.
We are going to be learning a little bit more about her over the next two weeks, but found out some interesting facts from our visitors.
After our talk they made us some coronation chicken for us to try. Something that was invented for our Queen when she became our head of state.

As part of our 'people who help us' theme we have been learning all about doctors and nurses this week as well as paramedics!!
We have a doctor surgury in our role play area now and we have all brought in our poorly teddies to see is Nurse Nevins and Nurse Redhead could make them better.
Nurses Nevins and Redhead had lots of injuries to take care of, broken bones, poorly heads and upset tummies.
We also used a real stethoscope to listen to our hearts beating. It was amazing to hear what they really sound like. We had so much fun, and can't wait to play again next week.

We have noticed the big yellow ball in the sky these last few days.....yes the sunshine has made another rare appearence! So we have covered ourselves with suncream and headed outside for some learning outdoors.
We have been looking at how much water different sized bottles hold....it's lots of fun splashing in the sun!
Also we have been practicing our letter and number formation as well as our pencil control but sometimes we have just chilled with a good book and read in the warmth. We are really hoping to have lots of sunshine over the next half term so we can have even more learning in our lovely little courtyard.

We have been learning about people who help us in Reception.
We have talked about who helps us and home and at school and now we are looking at who helps us in the outside world. Last week we learnt all about the postman and what he does. We designed our own postcards and posted them home to our families. We know all about the journey of a letter and enjoyed our walk down to the post box.
This week we are thinking about people who help us keep healthy. We are learning about doctors and nurses and all the wonderful things they do for us and our friends and families.

We have been thinking about pairs and what it means. We know that a pair is two of something, for example a pair of shoes or a pair of socks.
We worked together in our groups to pair up all of Mr Nevins' socks. We had to see which ones matched and line them up. We even tried counting them in two's!!
We are getting so clever.

We have been having lots of fun playing with the Bee-Bots in the ICT suite! Last week we learnt how to program the Bee-Bot to get it to travel to and from certain points on a treasure map. We were able to count how many squares the Bee-Bot needed to go and in which direction. We then pressed the buttons on the Bee-Bot to make it move and watched to see if we had programmed it correctly!

Staff from Whithaugh Park Outdoor Centre came to visit and ran a teambuilding afternoon.
Year 5 and pupils from the ARMS unit were involved in activities both outside and in the classroom.
Some excellent team discussions took part linked to the activities and it is clear who the potential leaders will be when year 5 go to Whithaugh Park.
The school was one of the first schools in Gateshead to use Whithaugh Park in Newcastleton and we have visited ten years running!!
It was great to have some of the staff coming to us and we are looking forward to our next visit to the Borders.
