Speaking, Listening & Responding

We equip our children and enable them to communicate effectively in all situations. Through Assessment for Learning strategies, children are taught how to structure their thoughts and ideas and express them in all areas of English. Opportunities are provided for peer talk, group talk and class discussions and debates.


Writing

This core subject is the key to accessing all other areas of the curriculum. Writing Children are taught to write for different purposes. These include: Report Explanations, Play-scripts, Recounts, Persuasion, Poems & Stories. Reading

We provide access to a wide range of stimulating reading materials and work in partnership with parents/carers to encourage a love of reading in our children. Pupils are taught to read using a combination of approaches which include both whole word recognition and phonics. Our Read Write Inc programme is successfully improving reading standards from Y1 to Y4. Every class teacher ensures that each child follows a structured programme of reading development, which is designed to be challenging and to enlarge each child’s reading horizon.
