Our Maths Curriculum
At Roman Road Primary School, we have developed a bespoke maths curriculum in collaboration with Gateshead’s Maths Consultant, ensuring it is fully aligned with the National Curriculum. Our approach is carefully designed to meet the needs of all learners and to build strong mathematical understanding at every stage.
Each year group follows detailed medium-term plans, organised into clear units of work with progressive small steps that support effective teaching and the secure development of key concepts and knowledge.
Our daily maths lessons are carefully structured to include rigorous modelling of new concepts, giving children opportunities for guided and partner practice before moving on to independent work. This consistent approach helps pupils develop confidence, fluency, and a deep understanding of mathematical ideas.
In addition to our main lessons, we hold Daily Maths Meetings to strengthen number sense and recall of key facts, supporting children in becoming fluent, confident mathematicians.
