Ove the last term we have enjoyed learning about the life-cycle of a butterfly. We looked after baby caterpillars which were tiny, although they soon grew to be fat after they ate all of their food. We watched a caterpillar spin into a chrysalis and the rest soon followed. After a couple of weeks, butterflies emerged from their chrysalis and we gave each of them a name. We identified them as being red admiral butterflies. The butterflies had to dry their wings out for a few days then we enjoyed setting them free in the Early Years Yard. Did you know that butterflies lay eggs and help to pollinate plants. We enjoyed making butterfly life cycle pictures and also made butterfly symmetrical patterns using paint.
